  • Cameras will adjust to changing light in auto focus
  • Use aperture settings
  • Time of shoot in day
  • Changes in natural light can impact continuity 
  • Time of day you wish to depict

3 point fill lighting

  • Back Light
  • Key light
  • Fill light

Chiaroscuro Lighting

  • Harsh Lighting
  • Creates extreme contrast 
  • Creates shadows
  • Common in dramas and horrors

High Key Lighting 

  • Harsh bright lights 
  • reduces contrast
  • White washed, clean look

Low key lighting

  • Creates shadows and contrast
  • Used to create atmosphere

Back lighting


  • Scene directly lit from behind focus
  • Usually natural

Natural Lighting

  • Any natural lighting

Today our task was to take a range of shots around the school.  A tilt shot or canted angle is used to show speed, movement or an unsettled mood. A long shot is used to show something at distance. It can be used to show a character at distance and to show that they are dominated by they're surroundings.    A close up shot is used to concentrate the audiences attention to one thing with minimal background detail. It can also be used to show a characters emotion or feelings.

Reality TV Codes Technical - examples would include shot reverse shot and 'fly on the wall' cinematography Character - there a certain character types that are present in reality TV such as rebellion/success Narrative - for example story of adversity  Cultural - language, slang, local brands and shops L.I.A.R Media Language - Sound, editing, , misc en scene and shot types Institutions - how it is produced as well as how/where it was released  Audience - who the show could potentially appeal to, target audiences Representation - social groups, different people and areas The Mighty Redcar, BBC2 Voice over as well as dialogue , tag line, branding, range of shots and angles, appropriate music, shows different characters and personalities. Kuleshov Experiment

The Kuleshov experiment is where the same reaction is used for different sequences of footage. This shows how context is important to scenes in media as in my task it shows the actor smiling at some sweets which makes him seem innocent whereas when the footage shows hes smiling at a child being shouted at, it makes him seem creepy and weird but makes him come across as a different person.
